An AI company in South Africa

A South African AI company. Durban built, Johannesburg hosted.

IndunAI is a South African AI company based in Durban, with servers in Johannesburg, that builds AI receptionists for small businesses and custom AI agents for companies that need more than a chatbot. The receptionist answers customers on WhatsApp and webchat around the clock, books appointments into the business's real calendar, sends reminders and quotes, and drafts marketing for the owner's approval, from R1 450 a month including VAT.

Talk to us on WhatsApp

You can try the product before you talk to anyone. There is a live demo at /demo, a live medical receptionist at /medical, and the bubble in the corner of this page is the same assistant answering for us.

Hi, are you open Saturday? Need a quote too if possible21:03

We are. Saturday 09:00 or 10:30 are both open. Tell me a little about the job and I will get a quote to you before then.21:03

Saturday 09:00

Booked. You will get a reminder the day before, and the quote lands in this chat once it is ready.21:04

An illustration of the pattern. The times come out of the business's own diary and the server checks a slot is still free before it is offered.

IndunAI takes its name from the induna, the Nguni word for a headman or appointed leader, in Zulu tradition the chief's trusted right hand who receives every visitor and makes sure each request is handled. Induna is the persona every IndunAI assistant answers as. The company behind it is In House IT, based in Durban, South Africa, with servers in a Johannesburg data centre, and it builds two things: the IndunAI AI receptionist for small businesses, and custom AI agents built per project.

What we build

Two things, and both of them do real work.

People searching for AI companies in South Africa are usually looking for one of two things: software that answers their customers, or a team that can build an agent to do a specific job. We are both, and the second is built on the first.

The AI receptionist

A productised assistant for South African small businesses. It answers customers on WhatsApp and webchat, 24/7, books appointments into the business's real calendar, takes deposits, sends reminders and review requests, prepares quotes and invoices, and drafts marketing that waits for the owner's approval before anything is published.

It is R1 450 a month including VAT with a 14-day free trial, and there is a live demo you can open right now. If you are comparing an AI receptionist in South Africa against hiring for the front desk, the whole month costs less than a day of a receptionist's salary.

Custom AI agents

For businesses that need something specific, we do custom AI agent development: an agent that holds a real conversation and then acts. It qualifies the lead, books the time, writes the document, takes the deposit, and files it all into the CRM your team already works in.

Every build runs on the same engine as the receptionist, so the expensive parts already exist and a build is priced per project, in writing, before anybody starts. The model proposes and the server verifies: the AI never decides on its own whether a slot is free or a payment cleared.

One real example: the Blue Diamonds Professional Editing build, where a website quote form returns a formal, server-priced quote in the same minute. Read about custom AI agents built in South Africa.

How it works

The model proposes. The server verifies.

This is the architecture under everything we ship, and it is the reason an IndunAI assistant can be trusted with a diary and a payment. The AI never decides whether a slot is free, whether a payment cleared, or who owns a booking. It asks. The server reads the record, checks the rule, and either does the thing or refuses.

One isolated instance per client

Every client runs on their own instance with its own database in a Johannesburg data centre. You are not a row in a shared table, and a conversation belongs to the person who had it.

POPIA is the starting point

Each instance publishes its own privacy policy, terms and PAIA manual in the client's name. Customer conversations are not used to train models, and we put what the system does and does not do in writing.

Honest about the borders

We do not claim your data never leaves South Africa. Records are hosted in Johannesburg; replies are generated by an AI provider outside the country under terms that say content is not used for training. POPIA's section 72 permits offshore transfers on specific grounds, and hosting the records here keeps that analysis narrow: the one cross-border leg is the AI provider, named rather than hidden. We would rather tell you that than have you find it out.

Humans stay in charge

The hard questions go to a person with the whole conversation attached, marketing is never published without the owner's approval, and the owner can step into any conversation and take over.

Choosing an AI company

How to choose between AI companies in South Africa.

Whether you talk to us or to somebody else, these are the questions worth asking any AI company, agency or chatbot supplier before you sign. A supplier who can answer all of them plainly is worth talking to, and the vague answer tells you more than the confident one.

  • Where does the data live, and who can read it? Which country, which company, and what is written down about anything that crosses the border. Ours: records in Johannesburg, one isolated instance per client, and the offshore AI provider named rather than hidden.
  • Show me the POPIA paperwork. A written operator agreement, and a privacy notice in your business's name rather than the supplier's. A compliance badge is not a document.
  • What happens when the AI is wrong? The things that matter should be checked by software, not trusted to the model: real calendar reads, prices from your own list, payments confirmed by the gateway. Ask how, specifically.
  • Can I try it live before I sign? Not a video and not a slide deck. Ours is at /demo and /medical, and it answers with the same engine clients get.
  • Who do I actually speak to? We are a small company in Durban, and the person you talk to on WhatsApp is the person who builds the thing. Ask any supplier who picks up when something breaks on a Saturday.

FAQ

Fair questions.

Is IndunAI a South African company?

Yes. IndunAI is built and run by In House IT in Durban, and the product runs on our own infrastructure in a Johannesburg data centre. The person you speak to is the person who builds it.

Where is the data hosted?

Each client runs on an isolated instance with its own database in a Johannesburg data centre, and each instance publishes its own privacy policy, terms and PAIA manual in the client's name. Replies are generated by an AI provider outside South Africa under terms that say content is not used to train their models, so we do not claim the data never leaves the country.

What does it cost?

The AI receptionist is R1 450 a month including VAT, with a 14-day free trial and no card needed to start. Done-for-you setup is R2 500 once-off, and the full price list, down to what a conversation is, is published on the pricing page. A custom AI agent build is priced per project, in writing, before anybody starts building.

Do you build custom AI agents?

Yes. Beside the productised receptionist we build custom AI agents for businesses that need something specific: agents that qualify leads, write documents, take deposits and file into the CRM the team already uses. Tell us what it has to do on WhatsApp or by email and you get a fixed price in writing.

How do I choose an AI company in South Africa?

Ask where the data lives and who can read it, ask for the POPIA operator agreement in writing, ask what happens when the AI is wrong, and ask to try the thing live before you sign. A supplier who can answer all four plainly is worth talking to, and the vague answer tells you more than the confident one.

Can I try it before I talk to anyone?

Yes. There is a live public demo at /demo, a live medical receptionist demo at /medical, and the chat bubble on this page is the same assistant answering for us. No sign-up and no email address needed.

Plainly, then

What we will and will not tell you.

We will tell you the price on the page, show you the product live before you sign anything, and put what the system does in writing. We will not promise you search rankings, invent usage statistics, or claim POPIA compliance on your behalf, because no product is compliant on its own and a company that says otherwise is selling you a badge. If WhatsApp AI for a South African small business is what you are weighing up, start with the demo and then come and ask us the hard version.

Ask us the hard version

Tell us what your business is drowning in.

A paragraph is enough: how the enquiries arrive, what happens to the ones nobody gets to, and whether the job needs the receptionist or a custom build. You will get a straight answer, including the answer that it is not worth doing yet.
